note

On this page, we’ve included a number of frequently asked questions in the hope it gives you a little more help and direction. Of course you can contact us at any time if you would like to know more.

Do I need any Qualifications?

The main pre-requisites you need are a willingness to learn, an open mind and a love of people!  Ideally if you are educated to GCSE level or equivalent standard this would be an advantage, as ITEC courses require a lot of written work. This is a career where life experiences count and age is considered an advantage.

How many hours teaching ?

Courses start at 0945 and finish around 430 pm. Massage courses are run every Wednesday. Aromatherapy is two Thursdays a month. Indian Head Massage and Reflexology courses are run around one weekend a month.

Do you provide refreshments?

Tea, coffee and herbal drinks are included. Students need to bring their own packed lunch. Alternatively, there are food shops in the area.

Is there any parking nearby?

The nearest long term car park is West Park Multi -Storey located down Tower Street HG1 1HS. Parking is free outside the school on a Sunday

Are there any additional extras for the courses

You will need to budget additional extras into the cost of the course. For Massage and Aromatherapy you will need to purchase a massage couch.  Aromatherapy students will also need to purchase essential oils (advice on what to purchase will be given).  Reflexology students will either need a massage couch and small swivel stool on wheels, or a porta-ped or Reflexology chair. Indian Head Massage students will need a chair with a low back. You will also need to purchase a course uniform and towels as well as folders for your notes.

Are there Any Grants Available?

Some grants may be available towards the courses. Please ask the tutor for details when you book.

How Many Students Are There In A Class?

It is important that each student is given enough support and attention so class sizes are kept small, with a maximum of ten students per course.

Where Are The Courses Run From?

The courses are run from the centre of the beautiful Spa town of Harrogate.  There are excellent rail and bus links and good parking facilities in the area.

Is ITEC A Recognised  Examining Body?

The International Therapy Examination Council (I.T.E.C.) was founded in 1973 and is one of the oldest and most established examining councils.

Since then it has grown to nearly 500 educational establishments both in this country and world wide including Ireland, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, South Africa, Japan, Kenya, Malta, Malaysia.

Its mission statement is “to provide a world-class independent examination system, with universally high standards, whose qualifications are recognised world-wide”.

ITEC Diploma qualifications are   QCF accredited  (Qualification And Credit Framework) and monitored by Ofqual, an independent body appointed by the  government to monitor and give advice on qualifications.  The Diploma’s  are equivalent to  NVQ Level 3 which is   `A` Level standard.

 How to Apply

If you would like to apply for a place on a course, the first step is to email the school. You will then be contacted by the course tutor who will arrange for you to have an informal interview. This gives the student the opportunity to meet the tutor and have a look around the school.

It is important that you have chosen the right course, so you will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss any special needs you may have.

After you interview, if it is felt that you would be suited to your chosen course, you will then be asked to register and leave a deposit. If you decide that the course is not right for you, or you need more time to decide, then you are under no obligation to register after your interview.
